Governor Hickenlooper joined the Economic Club for one of our Signature Luncheons.  The Governor discussed the economy, legislation and challenges he believes Colorado is facing as well as how those challenges might be overcome.  Governor Hickenlooper then took questions from the members.  The luncheon was well-attended and numerous attendees remarked on how engaging and candid the Governor was in his remarks and answers.

The CEO of Women’s Bean Project, Tamra Ryan, took us on a tour of the Women’s Bean Project.  Ms. Ryan explained the organization’s mission of helping unemployed and impoverished women learn job skills and how, through this mission, Women’s Bean Project also helps the community, the economy and runs a thriving business.  We also heard from one of the women in the program who shared the skills she has learned through the program and the way that it has enriched her life.  This event highlighted a truly amazing organization founded in Colorado that manages to do good in the world while doing well in business.

Evening at Galvanize

Galvanize - Work SpaceEconomic Club hosted an event at Galvanize’s Platte street location.   We heard from one of the founders of Galvanize, Chris Onan, who took us on a tour of Galvanize and then interviewed a panel of entrepreneurs who founded their companies, using Galvanize as a launching pad, and have since sold their companies.  The panelists were Jenna Walker (Artifact Uprising), Kevin McInerney (Active Junky) and Steve Swoboda (SpotXchange).

Well-known economist, Ed Hyman recently spoke to ECC and received high marks from the audience because of his ability to translate complex data into plain English as well as his humor.  Mr. Hyman has been voted Wall Street’s top economist by the Institutional Investors poll of investors for 35 consecutive years.

Eid, Principal, Greenberg Traurig LLP; Mike Elliott, Executive Director, Marijuana Industry Group; and Todd Mitchem, Founder, Todd Mitchem Consulting.  After lunch we participated in a behind-the-scenes tour of one of the largest grow facilities and retail shops (Medicine Man).

Thorn, Founder and CEO, Mile High Development, LLC, gave us insights into the evolution of the Denver Art Museum Expansion Co-Development Project, a model Public Private Development which produced the Cultural Center Garage, Museum Residences and the ART Hotel.  The event was held at the Martin Museum Residence, designed by Daniel Libeskind, which houses the Martin’s private collection of Post World War II Contemporary Art.  It included the work of Clyfford Still, Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, John Chamberlain, Alexander Calder, Agnes Martin, Roy Lichtenstein, James Turrell and others.
